Hip, knee and shoulder replacement procedures are performed using minimally invasive techniques, computer navigational aids and robotic devices to ensure accurate placement of the joint implants.  Dr. Aram of AOSMI performs MAKOplasty partial knee replacement, a bone and tissue-sparing robotic-assisted procedure, at the Robotic Surgery Center in Bethesda, Maryland, and INOVA Fair Oaks Hospital.  INOVA Fair Oaks Hospital was the first to have a MAKOSurgical RIO robot for knee and hip surgery.  Dr. Aram was influential in bringing this advanced technology to the Washington metropolitan area.  RIO is the most innovative robotic system for musculoskeletal surgery, producing highly consistent and superior surgical outcomes.  Dr. Aram has done over 700 cases since 2010 when RIO was introduced.  He also brought the robotic program to Bethesda, which started in December 2012.  Robotic Surgery Center has changed many lives including our first patient, an amputee, whose livelihood was in jeopardy until this technology became available.  He underwent a medial compartment MAKOplasty as an outpatient. The procedure was remarkably successful changing his life for the better.  He has returned to work as a truck driver delivering cargo throughout the area.
